The Kitchen Table Memory

I still remember sitting at my grandmother's kitchen table, watching her hands move as she spoke Irish to my grandfather. The words flowed like music—beautiful, ancient, alive. But when she turned to me, switching to English because she thought it would be "easier," something was lost in translation.

That kitchen held generations of Irish conversation, but by the time I was old enough to understand what we were losing, she was gone. Her Irish died with her, and I was left with fragments—a few phrases, the melody of her accent, and a deep ache for something I'd never truly known.

Years later, sitting in yet another sterile classroom trying to memorize verb conjugations, I realized we were approaching Irish all wrong. Language isn't grammar—it's life, family, stories shared over tea. That's when we decided to build something different.
